Local Identities

Peter Carmichael

Local artist, Peter Carmichael, has been painting Australia - from the Kimberleys to far North Queensland and beyond to the Mallee - for over 20 years. His work typifies the outback from landscapes to bush cricket and barn dances, along with exhibitions depicting the underlying humour found by observing the tenacity, independence and eccentricity of peoples in the remote areas of Australia - whether they be shearers, cattlemen, shopkeepers, entertainers or colourful local characters.

He presents a constant challenge to the viewer to look deeper than the first sensing impression.

His works are always ‘good to look at' with a seduction of the senses. It is up to the viewer as to how much they wish to get out of his imagery!
