Community Bank® Information to Arrive in Letterboxes

Sea Lake, 12 October 2009: Residents in Sea Lake and surrounding districts will begin to receive information packs regarding the local Community Bank® campaign this week.
Sea Lake & District Community Bank® Steering Committee members will also be telephoning households once the information packs have been received to answer any questions that residents may have.
Steering Committee Chairman John Renney said that he and other committee members were working hard so that there were no misconceptions about what was trying to be achieved.
"We want to make sure that our community has a sound knowledge of what a Community Bank is, how it works, and what we can achieve through having one in town," Mr Renney said.
The information packs contain detail regarding the Community Bank® concept along with an indicative pledge request form. This is the communities' opportunity to indicate their level of interest in establishing a community owned Bank for Sea Lake and district which, once profitable, will provide long term social and financial benefits to the communities who support it.
The steering committee has strongly urged residents to return their forms indicating their level of support as well as any feedback they may wish to provide by the end of October. Forms can be either mailed to PO Box 133, SEA LAKE VIC 3533 or dropped in a collection box at one of the locations listed on the pledge form.
Campaign Pledge Co-ordinator, Geoff Newell, is responsible for the collection and collating of the pledge forms. He is also the only member of the Steering Committee who knows what individual has pledged.
With over 240 Community Bank® branches Australia wide, there are numerous examples of the economic and social gains this banking model is providing to communities around the nation. One such example of what a community can achieve by getting behind the Community Bank® concept is the NSW town of Henty. Their story can be viewed online by going to tiny.cc/e964m.
Steering committee: Grant Alday, Colin Barber, John Clohesy, Ali McClelland, Alison McClelland, Andrew (Mac) McClelland, Laurice McClelland, Rohan Mott, Geoff Newell, John Renney and Claire Ryan.
